5 Most Anticipated Superhero Movies of 2016

Superhero movies have been skyrocketing through the Box Office charts and garnering awards faster than the eye could see. Like the years before, 2016 will surely be a year of superheroes. 8 superhero movies are already confirmed to be released this year while at least four of those films will feature entire groups of well-known super-powered heroes and villains battling each other. The Marvel Cinematic Universe is keeping their audiences delighted with new heroes being introduced every year. The DC Extended Universe is also keeping up with its competitor and has been growing its momentum for the past years.

Of course, you wouldn’t believe me if I keep saying all these honey colored words without evidence. To prove to you that these movies will indeed blow your minds, here are the 5 Most Anticipated Superhero Movies of 2016.

1. Captain America: Civil War

What it’s about: Marvel’s “Captain America: Civil War” finds Steve Rogers leading the newly formed team of Avengers in their continued efforts to safeguard humanity. But after another incident involving the Avengers results in collateral damage, political pressure mounts to install a system of accountability, headed by a governing body to oversee and direct the team. The new status quo fractures the Avengers, resulting in two camps—one led by Steve Rogers and his desire for the Avengers to remain free to defend humanity without government interference, and the other following Tony Stark’s surprising decision to support government oversight and accountability.

Why you should watch it: Captain America turns a full 360 degrees and becomes the bad little boy. Aside from that we get to see the Avengers split in half and try to destroy each other. Well, isn’t that exciting!

2. X-Men Apocalypse

What it’s about: Apocalypse, the first and most powerful mutant from Marvel’s X-Men universe, amassed the powers of many other mutants, becoming immortal and invincible. Upon awakening after thousands of years, he is disillusioned with the world as he finds it and recruits a team of powerful mutants, including a disheartened Magneto (Michael Fassbender), to cleanse mankind and create a new world order, over which he will reign. As the fate of the Earth hangs in the balance, Raven (Jennifer Lawrence) with the help of Professor X (James McAvoy) must lead a team of young X-Men to stop their greatest nemesis and save mankind from complete destruction.

Why you should watch it: We get to see the big names return to the spotlight. Storm, Cyclops, Jean Grey, Nightcrawler — these characters are part of the core of fifty years of X-Men stories, and they are all finally back on the big screen. Along with A-class heroes would be the A-class villain, Apocalypse.

3. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows

What it’s about: The Turtles come into conflict with T.C.R.I. scientist Dr. Baxter Stockman, the Foot Clan and the return of their enemy, The Shredder, who has hired Stockman to create mutants of his own in the form of Bebop and Rocksteady. Meanwhile, an invasion above New York City is led by the Dimension X inhabitant known as Krang. The Turtles are joined in the fight with their human friends April O’Neil, Vern Fenwick and the vigilante Casey Jones.

Why you should watch it: The first film was arguably the most disappointing film of 2014, but then the trailer came out and there was a completely different atmosphere. Not to mention new turtle designs.
